Arkansas Camden & BP of Johnny Cash

This loop of great motorcycle roads might also accurately be called “The Heart of Arkansas’s Timberlands.” It would not be too far afield to say this entire ride is through one big farm…a tree farm, that is. Much of the riding along the Camden portion of the Red River Campaign winds through cultivated forests of the Coastal Plains. The people here are friendly and the weather is generally good for motorcycling any time of year.

Beginning in Camden, this motorcycle journey follows US 278 as it gently winds east to Warren. The road is not difficult, and less experienced riders will enjoy the curving pavement.

Out of Warren, AR 8 heads north through Fordyce. But there are two good reasons to take the alternate route of AR 189. One is to make a pilgrimage to the tiny town of Kingsland, birthplace of Johnny Cash. A marker in town pays homage to The Man in Black.

The other reason to take AR 189 to Kingsland is the great motorcycle roads ¬ the rideability of this highway is several notches up from the rest. The terrain and flora remain the same, but the road becomes much more serpentine and twisty. This short stretch of AR 189 is amazing– definitely the most winding of the loop, and riders will enjoy the change. It’s not the switchbacks and hairpins you’d find on the rides up north, but it is wonderful pavement to cruise.
