Tourstart Android app

Tourstart has developed an Android app to motorcycle riders, which you can read more about here. This FAQ will give a brief overview of the unique features and how this is linked to the functions on the www.tourstart.org

The unique feature of the app is the full integration with the web page. You create one account, on either the web or app, and then this is used to log into both the app and web. Hereby you have access to all content on Tourstart on both platforms, and when creating a ride on the web it is instantly available on the app - and visa versa.

Motorcycle route transfer from iPhone/iPad to a gps

Many motorcyclists use an iPhone or iPad, and bringing them on the holiday tour. Then the question occur, whether it is possible to transfer a motorcycle route from the iPad to the gps. This is not possible. We are sorry, but this is a decision made by Apple, and there is nothing we can do about to change that.

Why is it not possible

On the computer,  the Garmin Communicator or TomTom HOME is used to transfer the route directly into the gps, and both software programs cannot be installed on the iPad nor the iPhone.

To be sure that you can import motorcycle tours - buy a motorcycle GPS.... However, other devices do also function. How to transfer routes to a Garmin GPS when the computer use Windows 10

Problem
After installing Windows 10 on your computer you need to re-install Garmin Communicator in ore to continue transfering routes to a Garmin GPS.

Why this problem
Less and less browsers accept the software type which Garmin Communicator is made of why it simply does not work in most browsers. The only browser you can use are the Firefox.

Manual transfer of a motorcycle route to a Garmin using GPX data

On Tourstart you can transfer a motorcycle route to a Garmin by installing the Garmin Communicator and with a single click transfer the route to your GPS.

In case you will like to make a manuel transfer to you Garmin GPS, you can follow this procedure.

We have not tested Tourstart on all Navigon units, but normally the Navigon GPS can handle import of motorcycle routes via Navigon Fresh.

TomTom Rider 40/400/410 - MyDrive Connect

This FAQ is for Mac owners.

The transfer of the routes needs special software as the Mac cannot see the TomTom Rider as an external drive. The problem is in the TomTom software as this does not work well with the Mac, but this Android File Transfer software solves the problem.

PRO - Time and distance between points

Ever needed to know the riding time between the points in you route?

This is now possible with Tourstart Pro, where you can see exact riding time and distance between start-via-end points in your motorcycle route. 

If you need to meet some fellow motorcyclists at a certian point and and at a certian time, then it is valuable to know the riding time and distance to the meeting place. Or perhaps you have book a table at your favorite restaurant, and need to be there on time?

When making a route on Tourstart it is done by adding some start, via or end points on the map. Between those points a route is made and this is where the difference can occur. On the map system Tourstart is using the way of calculating which route to ride is made on one way.

Can I automatically avoid highways when making a route plan on Tourstart?

Not by default. Here is the explonation. When a route on Tourstart is to be calculated between two points, a standard algorithm is used. Let us call this algorithm "Type 1 - with highway". Then you add some points and the standard algorithm "Type 1 - with highway" is used. This algorithm is more or less similar to the standard algorithm used by Garmin, TomTom, Navigon and other manufactures of motorcycle GPS.

So there is no problem to make a tour on Tourstart contaning of a lot of start, via and end points, as both Tourstart and your GPS device understand by default each other as they both use "Type 1 - with

Easy planning of a motorcycle ride

As a motorcyclist we often ask ourselves about the two most important questions:

  1. Where to ride to?
  2. How to get there?
